USB flash drive not being detected with windows 7

I have a USB flash drive that I had been using with XP. Today, I went to access the files saved on the drive using Windows 7, but The device would not be recognized by my computer. These are the steps I took so far:

    Right click computer
    open manager
    open disk drives
open "generic flash disk usb device"
    click driver
    click update driver
    opt for search automatically
Message displayed "The best driver software for your device is already installed."

But the device is still not recognized, When I go into disk management it indicates that "disk1 removable (E) no media."
But when I go into devices and printers there is a mass storage device icon.

I have the another USB drive (same brand and age as the problematic one) that I've only used with Windows 7 and it works fine.

    Welcome srand :)

Does it still work on the XP computer ? I have seen several flash drives get corrupted from one computer to another. Not sure what has been the actual cause of this problem

Unfortunately, I cannot test to see if it still works on XP because I no longer have that computer. Any other suggestions? Thank you.
