    Ok, thanks. To recap:
    • Machine boots OK
    • BIOS HD always AHCI
    • The mouse firmware hangs
    • Uninstall mouse driver did help
      • Reinstalling the mouse driver seems to have corrected the glitch.
Is there still an issue that members need to address?

I think the LEDs lighting at boot is normal as long as they don't stay lit. Post# 9
Please advise on the current state of the LEDs

no its not ticked. and all the other mice are broken.
There's no way to confirm your mouse is good/bad then. Hardware fails, you can't assume "it's not the mouse". If possible get a cheap one and try it.

i thought about just unplugging it if it happens again and replug it to see what happens. if that fails i'll just buy a new one. since the firmware update section in it doesnt work since it just hangs.

    Thanks for the updates m0nk3n.

Good to hear that you're not having BSODs now.
You might contact Steelseries about the firmware update tool hanging. Or check their forum to see if others experience the hang.

Rolling back a driver helps in some cases.

I have to say "That's quite an awesome machine you built"
