Computer Requirements for Samsung 27" LED SyncMaster S27B350H

    Hi Guys,

So I am thinking of upgrading from a Samsung 22" SyncMaster 226BW to a Samsung 27" LED SyncMaster S27B350H. However my Tower is an old 5 -6 yr old one with an

    -Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.1GHz
    -ASUS P5AD2-E motherboard,
    -NVIDIA GeForce 7900GS

Currently, my pc does not respond perfectly with occasional lags when watching movies and in-game. I really just play League of Legends and the requirements are not that high. I am just waiting for the tower to resonably unusable to get a new one. Meanwhlie, I would prefer a new bigger monitor.

My questions are, is my cpu going to handle the new monitor and is the new monitor going to reduce the response time of my pc? Can watching movies and play games create more lags?

Any help will be kindly appreciated :)

Hello and welcome JSeb mate the monitor will work on any computer - withinreason I think and I am no expert that your problem is that GPU it has not gotenough memory, the RAM is DDR2 and the CPU is well past it's sue by date mate for running what you want to.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad tidings but you really need to at least update that GPU.

Currently I am running a tester machine with DDR2 and a Q9650 with graphics though an Asus GTX 650 to a 24" monitor it works quite well what you are after I don't know.

My suggestion would be if you want to get another GPU try this one not expensive and is well worth the money and you can swap it out if and when you build that is the other alternative.
    ASUS GeForce GT 640 2GB [ENGT640-2GD3] - $109.00 : PC Case Gear
It is only DDR3 memory on it and this would be far more useful if you should decide to build
ASUS GeForce GTX 650 Ti DirectCU II Boost 2GB [ENGTX650TIB-DC2OC-2GD5] - $209.00 : PC Case Gear
    - currently in my main machine Ivy Bridge build. You could look elsewwhere for th plain GTX 650 it would be good too but you would not be paying much less than the Ti model.

    HI ICit2lol,

Thanks a lot for replying to my post. I understand that my pc is close to be called 'prehistoric' lol, but I currently cannot afford a new pc and wanna hold on a little longer to the current one. Your comments were very interesting and I went on to look for some GPUs in the stores around my area. I am trying to spend as little as possible on the GPU in regards that it has to be more powerful than my current one.

As I am not interested into the dual DVI, I thought the GeForce GT630 could be an option. The other difference is the PCI Express from 3.0 to 2.0. Is it going to make a big difference?

    - http://msy.com.au/product.jsp?productId=10725

For $10 difference, should I get the 4gb one?
Could you please point out how to know which GPU can my mother board support up to?

    Thanks again

Does your pc have pci express 3.0? Then you should get the 3.0. But if you want to save money so badly, get the 2.0. There will be a performance loss though.

According to newegg you have 1 pcie x16 1.0 Slot. A video card such as a gt8600 would probably best fit your needs, looking at your other specs. If you got something like a gt630, all your other components would bottleneck your gpu and might cause instability. I know that a GT8600 is not a current gen card, but you might be able to buy one used on ebay. That's my 2 cents.

I do understand what you are saying concerning all the other components being slow. However, is there a chance that I use the ones currently on the market? For example, the

    - ASUS GT610-SL-1GD3-L 1GB GT610 PCI-E VGA Card or
    - ASUS GT620-1GD3-L 1GB GT620 PCI-E VGA Card ?

Well you could try but it is not worth the risk. (Unless it is returnable after use...)

Those cards will be fine providing your PSU is adequate to power them. Both cards are PCI-E 2.0 will will be backwards compatible with your PCI-E 1.0 slot and will work. Both have HDMI outputs too so connectivity is also fine.

I just checked, my power supply is an Antec 550w output. Do you think its enough?

Certainly, you'll be good to go with that PSU for either of those cards.
