    Amusing computer problem

I have my new rig stable and running well,
with the exception of one last problem to fix. My chassis has the standard power switch, reset switch, power LED, and HD LED lights on the front of the case.

Before I tell you what the problem is I want to say that all these front panel switches/lights are properly wired to the MB header via manual.

So this is the problem: starting the PC from the power switch does not work, the PSU will make a short cycle but not boot the PC. Instead, if I touch the HD LED light softly, the computer starts and boots just fine. Go figure.

My best guess as to what is causing this would be a defective wiring/switch in the front panel or a poor ground perhaps?

This PC was recently moved into this chassis and I did not have this problem in the old chassis, so I think I can safely say the chassis is the problem. I really like this chassis, but am afraid I will have to replace it.

    I think you are right.
If this chassis is new and under warranty, send it back and get a replacement. Be sure to mention the problem when requesting the RMA.

    yea,
something I have learned from working on auto electrical systems is:
a bad ground will let power go to places it should not. Or in other words, erratic behavour that is hard to diagnose.
