How to stop a USB HD from trying to boot Windows

When I plug a USB Hard Drive into my PC and boot the PC the hard drive tries to start Windows. "Windows failed to Start" comes on the screen. How can I stop this from happening?

The USB hard drive is a WD MyPassport. When I plug it in after booting it connects automatically.

I know of no way to show a picture. When I boot the PC with the USB HD plugged in it says, "Bootmgr is missing" Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to Continue. That's a slight change from before. When I unplug the USB HD from the PC, press Ctrl-Alt-Del, the computer boots. If I connect the USB HD after the PC has started I can read/write files to it.

I ran Seatools Basic Test on US HD. It Failed.

Check the boot order in the bios.
Make sure the drive Windows is on is set to boot first.

What Layback says is what you need to do.

Your hard drive is not set to boot first.

You can't take a screen shot with a computer that will not boot.

If I used the camera on my cell phone to make a screen shot the picture would show what's on the screen "Boot Mgr Missing"

Seatools said "Failed Test"

Since I am trying to boot a dead PC from a USB my Boot Sequence is set to:
USB Hard Drive 1st
CD/DVD 2nd
Internal hard drive 3rd.

I see nothing wrong with that .

This contradicts the question in your Topic...
Turn off USB boot.

I most strongly agree with Patio.

If your PC is set to boot from a USB drive which in its turn does not contain a valid OS to boot, you can either change the boot order or disconnect the USB drive and reconnect it after PC has booted.
