Actually, had I read the damn manual, I would have realized that I had the wrong ports for the hdds.

Easy mistake, I've done it too. ASmedia/Marvell gets confusing too, some ASUS board have both with ASmedia serving up USB 3.0 and Marvell the SATAIII.

One of the few things I liked about Vista was that you didn't have to go to a little tray icon to click to get your drives back, you could just right-click and "safely remove" was in the context menu.
