Keys not working - Laptop - Acer Aspire 5755G

I have an Acer aspire 5755G and some of the keys have stopped working (6,8 and 9 of the top row number keys). Very occasionally they might start working again for a few minutes, or if i start tapping them hard they may start to work for a bit. But in general they don't work at all.

I plugged in a usb keyboard and all of the keys work, so I am assuming this is a mechanical problem.

I am going to attempt to replace the keyboard myself as i managed to find one video, its in a diff language but I think I can see how he does it Thay tháo s?a l?p bàn phím Acer Aspire 5755G keyboard replacement fix assembly guide - YouTube

However I thought before i go ahead I would ask on here is there anything else you suggest i do which might fix it. I assuming there is no way this can be a problem in the os/bios and its definitely hardware related?

I don't have any warranty left either

    Thanks

    Hello Robwan,

Usually, if just a few keys stop working... it's a bad keyboard. This happens a lot with Gaming Computers, due to the heavy use of certain keys.

If an external keyboard works, I'd consider replacing the onboard keyboard. You can also test using the on-screen keyboard, as well.

A new keyboard can be purchased on ebay or keyboard.com

    Hope this helps,

Thanks for your help. Yes i think i shall buy one off ebay as they are quite cheap. That video is one for a slightly different model i think as mine is 5755g and slightly different physically. But the video I posted in the first post should be good enough for me :)

    Thanks again

    Hello Robwan,

I replaced the link in my first post...this one should be the correct one.

If you purchase the keyboard on eBay, make sure it's a new one. Look for sellers with lots of good feedback and a good return policy.

Post back later once you've replaced the keyboard to let us know how it worked out.
