External HDD same path on server and local

    Hello,

I have an Ubuntu based home server with a portable usb hard drive shared via samba. I have the drive mapped to windows network drives on both my desktop and laptop. Several programs are dependent on this exact path (e.g., itunes). When I leave the house, however, I'd like to remove this drive from the network and bring it with me. The problem is, when I mount the drive to my laptop, the path is different so itunes and my myriad of other dependent programs can't find it.

What would be a solution to this problem?

    Thanks a lot.

is it giving it a different letter in ubuntu or windows if windows you can always make it have the same letter by assigning it one in disk management.

Ubuntu doesn't use drive letters. There has to be a way to do this... I'm racking my brain but nothing is coming to mind.

Which one does it not be the same when you put it back, the windows system or the Ubuntu server?
