    nothing appears when typing

    Hi,
I awoke this morning to find that nothing appears on the monitor when I type. This happens across all applications. I substituted a wired keyboard for my Logitech wireless and got the same result. The strange thing is that if I open Notepad, for example, type something in and go to exit Notepad it prompts me to save what I've entered even though nothing appears on the screen. The only thing I haven't tried is swapping monitors.
I am running Windows 7 SP1 on a Dell Inspiron desktop.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

I'm assuming you rebooted after swapping keyboards.
Do any function keys work? Space bar, etc?
The only time I've encountered non-operative keyboards was with a brand new ABIT motherboard.
It was my first computer build. Sent the MB back and the replacement worked fine.
Apparently had a bad keyboard controller.
Got no diagnostic messages at all upon booting, but 2 known good keyboards wouldn't input to the PC.
Hope that's not your problem, but it's all I have.

Just to be clear, with the Notepad example, it's like your font has become transparent? Can you see the cursor in Notepad?

    Thanks for the replies.
No, I could not see the cursor.
But because I had immediate need of the computer, I restored my C: drive from a backup and the problem went away.
Thinking back, I thought that the issue arose when I received an update for my USB, but I have since re-received what was presumably the same update without ill effect.

It's too bad that you had to go through the nuisance of restoring the HD, but I'm glad that you got it fixed.
