SD Card won't appear in laptop.

So for the last hour and a half I've been trying to plug my SD card into the SD drive on my laptop and it wont show up in the computer section where all the HDDs are. The SD card is perfectly intact, so im wondering if theres something wrong with the computer itself.

Have you checked the mfg'rs website for either the proper driver or a bios update fixing this problem? Have you re-installed your OS or loaded anything and then suddenly the sd stopped working lately?

I had a look around but HP requires exact model number info. Good luck it sounds like just a driver issue. Oh have you plugged the sd card in another device to rule it out or try a different sd card in the hp?

When was the last time it worked? If a few days or a week or so you could restore back to before and see if that fixes things otherwise I would re-install the proper sd card driver if available via HP.

It was like a week or two weeks or so ago, so would a system restore be useful here?

If you're lucky to have a restore point back then ....it won't hurt !

Try uninstalling the Micro Card controller then reinstall. I had the same issue on my Dell. It was the Intel Controller's I believe. Anyway It's probably not hardware but software. So try drivers and updates via HP and Intel. I'd also would go to and see if Intel detects anything. http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect
