    PCI-Express Compatibility question

    Hello,
I'm thinking of buying the new R9 290 from AMD. But I just read up on it and it says that it is PCI-Express x16 version 3. I've got a Dell XPS 9000/435T computer with a Dell x58 Motherboard. My motherboard only supports PCI-Express version 2. Will this card bottleneck? Will there be any performance hit?
    Specs:
    Intel Core i7 975 Extreme Edition 3.33ghz
    6gb DDR3 RAM
    Dell X58 motherboard
475 watt PSU (Will be upgrading to 750w+)
Card: AMD R9 290 4GB MSI PCIe Video Card PN R9290-4GD5-MSI | Computer Alliance
Computer: Dell Studio XPS 9000 Desktop Details | Dell
    Thanks,
    Lachy

IT will run at Ver. 2.0 speeds but I suspect it will better than what you now have. IT shouldn't cause a bottle neck.

PCI-E 3.0 is backwards compatible so no worries there. And as mentioned there wouldn't be any bottlenecking, especially if it's for a single screen.

Even if you go Eyefinity, the fps hit would be absolutely minimal/not noticeable.

Enjoy your new card mate :)

    I'm running a PCI-e 3.0 GPU on a board with PCI-e 2.0 slots without any problems.
