500GB hard drive showing 100mb space when formatting

So i managed to kinda mess up my hard drive that was in my old laptop and i got a new hard drive. The old hard drive i took to a technican and he fixed it. When i hooked up the old hard drive using one of those "thingies"(forgive my ignorance) that make the hard drive like an external one. so i open it and i am asked to format, the problem is that the size written is 100MB eventhough my drive is 500GB. Thanks in advance

How is it shown in Disk Management ? "?
The 100Mb space may be leftover from the Windows install.

Disk 0 looks good. Disk 2 is the 100 MB you are referring to I assume. Since all of Disk 2 is Raw, you could just format the whole thing and partition as you like and this would get rid of the 100 MB. This is a good tool to use.

Remove the partitions as you said and format. I haven't used it in a while so I can't give you exact info on the procedure, but it is not that hard to do. Just read the instructions and you will be fine. Did you make the boot disk? It kind of hides the fact that it needs to be done. Just boot with the boot disk and do the work and you should be OK. Report back how things go.

Thanks for the reply. Boot diskk? Do I need to do this? Nobody or shop nearby sells CD's and I have none at home. Can i just work via the partition wizard directly? Thanks

Why would you need to boot from a CD? If you have a working Windows 7 you can straight away install PW Home Edition 8.1.1 (19.26MB Free download Magic Partition Manager Software, partition magic alternative, free partition magic, partition magic Windows 7 and server partition software - Partition Wizard Online ) and try to format your Hard drive. ( Please remove all other external hard drives except the problem drive so that you don't format a wrong HDD.)

so i have been stuck at this level of progress for the past say... 10 minutes, is this normal? I used the wipe disk option as it seemed the most suitable and chose "fill with zero's" did i do something wrong or does it usually take that long? thanks in advance
