second HDD not showing in My computer, and disk management

Hi guys, I'm kinda primitive and still using win XP SP2, but I need your help. I backed up my valid information on a hard disk a friend gave me and now it is not showing up. I've search all over the net but to no avail, so am forced to join this forum. I need those information badly; so please,somebody...anybody...
