Why doesnt my external harddrive show up in my computer?

    Michal has a good idea. A Linux may be able to read the stuff. Then you can transfer the data (if any) to another device. You could use this - all you need is a 4GB USB stick and some place to move the data to.

    Emergency Kit - save your files from a dead OS

    Don't get confused by the title. It would work for you. But any live Linux CD like the suggested Puppy would work too. Only thing is that Puppy is a bit awkward to copy files. Mint which is on my suggested stick is easier to operate. Plus you get a nice OS that can be used anywhere.

    Well there is no important data on it and I cant get it working like you said I might aswell get a sata drive..
