What process is polling the Optical Drive every couple minutes?

can one of you MS experts tell me what routine/process is at work polling drives ~ every 2 min or so?
I know the status of the drive... don't need the OS checking it so much

hey, you changed your avatar... trying to fool us all???

best I can determine from OCD thread-searching, what makes it annoying is the way the particular drive/firmware responds to the request. in this case the Samsung/tsst drive will light up its head and its noisy. that's all. just one of those things that is not really necessary since I sorta know whether I need the drive or not :)
I have not gotten around to stopwatch-ing it yet to see if its timed accurately but my sense is, yes. its about 3 minutes apart, regularly.

Mmm. I don't know......I could understand if the drive has a disk in it, but not when empty. Is it perhaps a Samsung utility doing that?

Would your system by chance have a burn process waiting and be looking for the disc to burn to.
