    Swapping hard drives on laptops

I have two Toshiba laptops, both Satellites. One is a P755 and the other is a newer model by about one year. Both are Windows 7 64. I would like to swap the hard drives so the newer laptop has the older hard drive. The older one as lots of software, etc that I would like to use on the newer laptop. The older one is having keyboard problems etc. but I would like to use it in the same capacity I am using the newer one now. Hope that makes sense. Chuck

    Welcome to Seven Forums chuckbear.
You can give this a try. Windows 7 Installation - Transfer to a New Computer
It may not work because I suspect you have OEM versions of w7 which are tied to the first machine it's installed on.

Chuckbear, welcome to the windows 7 forum.

Before you try trading the two hard disks with your laptops, I would recommend a backup of ANY files that you wish to save. There is always the chance that some might be lost. There is a pretty good chance that Windows 7 will allow you to move the hard disk with just a bit of rebooting where windows will have to find the correct drivers.

With good backup's, give it a shot and see what happens. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Thanks, I don't want to just move Windows since it's already on both machines. But there is too much to try and swap back and forth with all that is on each. That's the reason for swapping the hard drives instead.
