Just got the PS3 ( using the controller for setup is a chore, but that's not the question.)

When I plug an external hdd or flash drive into the USB port, how do I access it?

There doesn't seem to be a choice on the sreen.

    Thanks,

    Paul
The flash drive/HDD has to be fat32 you will also need to create folders spelt the same as in the ps3 I.e Video for Video put the films in them. The downside is they have to be mp4 nothing else, Plex will play all the file types though.
Check in the PS3 settings that you have media server connection enabled,(its in network settings)

Finally got the external hdd to work:

Folder has to be named PS3 - after finding the movie, music, etc. , must click on Display All and that will allow play.

BTW - movies can be in Avi as well.

The downside of playing movies from ext hdd, is that because of Fat 32 , if the movies are larger than 3.9gb, it breaks them up into 29 minute segments.

The only way to watch a movie larger than that it to play it o a disc, or stream it from a media server.

    Music is fine, though.

I`ve never hooked up an external or used a usb stick on it so I have no idea about that. I`ve only used it for games and movies.
