new twist on the EnabledProtocols printer issues maybe - HELP!

I have a new windows 7 Dell, cheap package deal, runs good. It's at work so I don't have it here to get the specs - i'm unsure of the processor, amount of ram, and the motherboard, but I just got it at Staples almost a month ago. I'll log onto this forum from there tomorrow...

Configuring accounting software and windows so can print receipts on an Epson tm-220 usb receipt printer, the client serves as a cash register, server for the accounting files, and entertains the staff. It's new at its job and has one niggling shortcoming.

Finally got it mostly working - the receipt prints but then there appears in the queue a Local Downlevel Document (LDD). The red error light blinks on the printer, and it wont take another receipt until the printer is switched off (at which point the LDD disappears) and back on, then will accept another receipt but same stop afterwards.

Been reading about the hotfix 419121_intl_i386_zip.exe which covers KB Article Number 2388142 - not sure if this is my problem. Does this hotfix add the following to the registry...

HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Printers\EnabledProtocols
Type: DWORD
Data: 6
?

Im not experienced editing, updating or messing with the registry either and will need help if that's part of the solution to my problem.

I have a trailing Local Downlevel Document after each print - any ideas?

Bottom Line Accounting - they told me it doesn't support usb printers, but its working pretty good except for this little bug.
