    TPM socket on motherboards?

I have a MSI CSM-H87M-G43 motherboard in my HTPC. I've looked on google but I still don't understand what the TPM connector is used for.

The TPM socket is for a TPM (Trusted Platform Module) card. The card is for use with Bitlocker, an encryption feature that is available only with Win 7 Ultimate. The card is what contains the encryption key. There is a way to do the same using a USB stick. A more technical explanation can be found here.
