Windows 7: Corsair H80i Problems

I'm using the fans it came with, they seem quite good at moving air through the rad.
After filing the mounting thing down, temps have dropped even more. Running Prime95 for 8 hours I got a max of 71C and IBT on High, 77C. This was with an OC of 4400 and .005V more added.

So I found the problem was not me but the length of the barrel nuts the pump mounts with. They are not short enough to let the pump surface to fully contact the CPU lid.

Everyone, this is where I files some on the backplate "barrel" nuts, as I call them. I can see that my explanation may not have been very clear, sorry.

I am going to send it to Corsair too.

EDIT: It is sent, for all the good it will do...

Nice 1 Gary that should come in handy for people coming across this thread in the future
What socket were you installing it on? I have seen post's where people have had to add washers before but I never had any problems with mounting my H100i on my board.

This is a LGA1155, but also fits 1156, 1366 and 1150.

Maybe the socket is just slightly lower on some board's then mate as it's odd that a lot of people have the same problems with it. I remember when I installed mine it felt a little loose but only until I mounted the pump.

I wonder if anyone has removed the H80i or H100i pump and saw this kind of poor spreading of the paste?

That is pretty bad isn't it.. I take it you use the small pea method of applying paste? I don't know what the spread of mine is like mind but I just use about a large grain of rice. I'm seeing a lot of peole recommend spreading it recently but I would have thought that would increase the amount of air that could get in there.

Yes, very bad, no coverage in the upper left corner at all. I do use the rice-grain size plop of paste in the center of the CPU lid and clamp it down. If there is roughness as in some heat-pipe base coolers, I'll spread on that and wipe till it looks clean, then go with the rice grain on the CPU.

I kept reapplying paste to see a difference ,I guess my model was warped like yours Gary i got fed up and just returned it

Soon as i put my 920 Khuler on i was good and it didn't take no time for the paste to settle

From now on i avoid H80i and H100i i like Astek products they seems to do a better job all around

Will a Corsair H80i be compatible with a ASUS p9x79 WS motherboard?
I have an alienware ALX full tower and it's liquid cooling system wasn't good for this motherboard (and it's 5 years old) so I decided to upgrade since I couldn't install it. I've bought a Corsair H80i off of amazon but later learned that it has a 3 pin connecter but my CPU_FAN connector has 4...

H80i Advice - Noise Levels
I've just ordered a new rig and am really battling with myself over the CPU cooler option. the full spec is on the left and is amendable until the rig goes into production. I know I've ordered the 3570k but I intend to run it at stock speeds for the foreseeable so Hydro cooling isn't essential...
