If there is roughness as in some heat-pipe base coolers, I'll spread on that and wipe till it looks clean, then go with the rice grain on the CPU.
    It could be that you've over tightened the pump mate as that causes the board to warp slightly. Just a maybe

    No it's due to the length of the barrel nuts, after filing them down I got an even spread. That pic is from the original install when my temps were near TJmax with Prime and IBT, with no overclock.
