Recovery question

I am thinking of purchasing this laptop -- HP ProBook 4540s Notebook PC - 3rd generation Intel Core i3-3110M 2.4GHz, 4GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, DVDRW, 15.6 Display, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit / Windows 8 Pro 64-bit - C9K70UT#ABA at TigerDirect.com.

It comes with Win 7 Pro and my desktop has that as well (I purchased this for my current PC and the Notebook has it installed).

Can I just do a Recovery (Trueimage) from my current comp,to the notebook and have all my programs, etc on the Notebook?

I would put the Backup on an external hdd attached to the Notebook.

Thanks,

Paul

That won;t work - for a whole list of reasons. You have to reinstall the programs on the new laptop.

Nice laptop - a bit expensive though. This is a good one that I would buy.

When I do a Recovery to my current comp, all programs on the C drive are there, so why would I have to reinstall the programs to the Notebook if doing a Recovery?

You cannot transfer an OS from one system to another. Besides activation problems you will get all kinds of driver problems. It just does not work, believe me.

But you can always try. Nothing better than hands-on experience.

I've never tried it myself but Acronis does support Restore to Dissimilar Hardware you might see if it might apply

Looked at your link - I don't want Windows 8 and this one is even more expensive than the one I am considering.

I only want it for surfing Web,playing my music, etc. - No games.

I believe the time you would expend trying to deal with all of the problems that would arise would far exceed the time it would take to reinstall your software. You would be getting a pristine Win 7 install - don't blow it ;-)

I guess I was just looking for the easy way out, but will probably have to install programs separately.

Darn!!
