HP Folio 9470 Windows 7 says No Audio Device plugged in, No Sound

    Hello all:
Here is a good one. I have an HP Elitebook Folio 9470m Ultrabook downgraded to windows 7 Pro. from 8 pro. Sound worked great when first set up. Sales person went overseas with it and sound stopped working. Headphone jack looks and feels ok, not loose, snaps in at right places. Icon on desktop shows speaker with red x. Hover shows No speakers or audio device plugged in.

Uninstalled audio drivers from device manager and rebooted. (did not remove drivers at this run). no change.

Downloading windows 7 drivers from HP for this device using serial number listed under battery results in setup program for audio saying "The hardware detected is not supported by this IDT Software package"

Downloading Windows Vista and Windows 8 drivers from HP.com has same results.

Uninstalling drivers for audio AND deleting drivers then rebooting. Same results.

    Motherboard issue?

Restore point to earliest saved point has same results.

    SFC Scannow shows no issues.

I will be setting up a usb with Linux mint to test hardware this afternoon.

Well after much research and calls to both Reseller and HP it has been determined that it is an unknown issue.
Will be sending it back for warranty.

I have the same effing problem 9470m weak headphones sound.

Sound works fine through the speakers but the headphone jack does not work (it's very quiet but on full volume you can just hear something)

Windows reports headphones are not plugged in yet the speakers stop working when you plug in headphones...

I disabled the green ticked speakers in audio which makes the speaker in the tray get a red x and you get no sound.

Rebooted and the headphones work after clicking on the x'd speakers and windows looks for problems.

Also the headphones work fine under linux mint with absolutely no problems so it's not a hardware issue, definitely a driver issue. Luckily I hardly use windows and headphones at the same time but it's very annoying.

    Fixed

    Another fix
Click on the sound icon in the task bar (right click)
    Go playbackdevices
Click on the green ticked speaker
Double click (or right click properties)
Under controller information there is a properties button - click it
Click change settings *(Admin shield icon)
    Go driver - update driver

Point it to the latest HP drivers you have downloaded on disk mine are 7/2012 (so not that recent really)
I downloaded a driver pack sp58839 rather than each driver one by one and it extracts into a folder called
    C:\Users\...\Desktop\files\wsetup\NB_xx70-xx75_1.00
Just point it at that folder.

Pictures of speakers change to a separate laptop and headphones icon with green ticks by both
    All good.
