Question about recognition of a USB floppy drive

I've been going through all of my hardware from the XP days today (remember XP?) and stumbled across a brand new NEC USB floppy drive.

I thought I'd try it so when I plug it into a USB port, I get the characteristic wave sound and same for unplugging but it doesn't show up in my file manager although device manager sees it.

Any ideas or should I add it to the scrap pile?

    Thanks for reading this.

Did you try inserting a floppy disc ? I think its a bit like a cd rom ... it wont show up untill some media is inserted

Yes, I did. I found a floppy with some motherboard drivers on it.

No go. Maybe I should try to find some other floppies.

    Thanks for the reply.

Just plowed through some boxes and after dusting off the cobwebs I found an old floppy, gave it a quick whirl and it worked. You have to actually try and browse/open the floppy for it to initialize ... good luck :)

    Thanks

All I see are the C drive and the D drive.

I did find a bunch of floppies but it didn't ever see any of them.

The priority on getting this working is close to zero so let's call it quits.

Thanks very much for your contribution. It is much appreciated.
