USB Device Format

Hello,
I have a USB thumb drive that I am trying to recover some information off of but I am unable to access or format the drive.

When plugged it, the drive gives a prompt to format before use, but when format is clicked it throws back a warning
"Windows can't format B.
Check to see that the disk and drive are connected properly and make sure that it is not read only"

Opening disk management, the drive shows up as online with 0 mb.

At this point if I could reformat and then try to recover files I would be fine.

The disk will not show up in HP USB format tool, diskpart, or Photorec.

I was suggested to check the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies
but there is no StorageDevicePolicies under that key. I have also checked in ControlSets 1 and 2 and that key is not there either.

Diskpart will not show the disk, but will show the volume. The volume shows unusable. When trying to format the volume it gives an error in the event log:

I have checked the drive itself for a switch for write-protection but there isn't one. Also removed the case to check the pins and solder and all seems to be intact.

Chkdsk has also been attempted but it states that it cannot open volume for direct access.

Basically, I feel I need to trash this drive but wanted to see if I am missing something.

Thanks,
Matt
