You are an IT specialist and don't believe in AVs and UAC?

Not knowing your knowledge in the computing field I made a suggestion. That's it.

Yeah! I am. And I hope you knew that I was talking about myself here. For clients if they request an AV, I install one. Heck I even present them with the choices after having done extensive research. As for UAC, I always disable it first thing after I format any client's PC.

Tell me, what's the use of UAC if you can just hit ok n ignore it anyway ? Clients I forget to disable UAC for, keep calling back and complaining about how annoying it is, and ask me to teach them how to disable it. It's the worst thing on earth.

And please don't take this the wrong way, it's just my personal opinion. If you like to use AV + UAC I ain't gonna talk shit. We are free to like or dislike anything we want !

    Cheers me lady

The purpose of UAC is to let you know a program is about to be started. If malware should try to open a program, UAC will alert you to that and prevent the program from starting unless you intervene. It takes all of one or, maybe, two seconds to click on YES (not OK, btw). That one second delay is nowhere close to the worst thing on Earth and is a cheap price to the extra security UAC provides.

If you say so. For me and many people it's just annoying. In my case, since am a careful person, I don't run bad programs on my system. Also I got alternatives to UAC that don't bother me via popup. Just a balloon in taskbar.

I give up. Maybe it's a language barrier but you just aren't getting it.

I am. It's useful. I get it. But I just find it annoying is all. Better safe than sorry. I am safe. The USB issue is only one I or my satisfied customers have ever suffered for years. I am not ignorant.

When Lady F said " MSE has consistently ranked as the worst AV in AV reviews for well over a year now" Do you have a link to that, I want to read it. MSE has not given me any problems.

    For starters:

Goodbye Microsoft Security Essentials: Microsoft Now Recommends You Use a Third-Party Antivirus

    AV-TEST - The Independent IT-Security Institute: Jul/Aug 2013

    AV-TEST - The Independent IT-Security Institute: Jan/Feb 2014

Microsoft Security Essentials Fails Certification Again

My own experiences reflects the above. During the six months I used MSE, I never could get it to automatically download definitions; I had to do it manually. MBAM was frequently picking up viruses that MSE was letting through. In short, it was a joke. MSE had excellent ratings its first year or so, but has plummeted since then.

I own 2 USB3.0 external drives, one is an Apacer 500gb drive the other is a WD elements 2tb drive. When am copying files to one of them the other self ejects then re-mounts itself out of the blue. And other times the drive I am copying to self ejects then re-mounts resulting in corrupt files.
Back to the original topic.....is Windows 8.1 updated? Windows 8 provides native USB3.0 drivers, and I'm wondering if the Fresco drivers - installed on Windows 8? - might be conflicting with the native USB3.0 drivers?
