Windows 7: Is my computer/Windows toast? Not sure what is wrong

Thanks,

Well I had the option to set the computer back to the start (seeing as I had no restore points) I had saved what I wanted, and went for it. I didn't need disks etc as all the information was stored on the D: drive. The computer pretty much did it for me and I just configured what I wanted installed as it asked (ie windows essentials options)

I have a normally working computer again. I still had trouble with HP assist on start up, and could not download more up to date drivers from the website although I could update HP assistant and then it downloaded them for me.

If anyone gets stuck on "gathering information" I would suggest going to the website and downloading it again.

Thank you all! I will tuck this info away in case I ever have more problems!
