Bios installed successfully at start up but system doesn't boot..

Hello Friends... Yesterday, my dell precision 670 was unable to start so a lot of start up messages appeared, one of which was that system battery is low so i replaced old cmos battery with a new one, now," system battery is low," message has been removed but still i am getting following prompts and system still doesn't boot:

CERC SATA 2S BIOS for Non-Hotplug Drive

Press Ctrl A for Adaptec Raid Configuration Utility

    Controller #00: CERC SATA 2S at PCI BUS:00 , Dev:1F

    Loading Configuration..... Done..

    Port#00 WD5000AAKS-00TMA12.01C01

    SATA JBOD - PORT- 0 WDC WD5000AAKS-0

    1 JBOD Device Found.

    Bios Installed Successfully!!

Then it gives me two options further in the boot process

    Launch Start Up Repair
    Start Windows Normally

If i chose, start up repair option it says failed to repair and start windows normally option first displays "windows is starting message", and then windows 7 log starts for a second but then system restarts from here.... one more thing, i went into bios and i can see, CERC 2S#0-#0 wdc WD5000AAKS-0 in the boot sequence option instead of my Sata Hd which says, not present, and down in the on board devices menu, drive where my hd is present says, this drive is controlled by Raid BIOS....

Pardon me for writing a lengthy question but i don't wana lose my data which unfortunately is on my desktop so please help me sort this issue out.... Thanks a Million... :)

I'm unclear on a few things:

Does this PC have 2 hard drives: a WD 500 GB drive and the one you call "my Sata Hd"?

Have you recently flashed the BIOS or made any changes in the existing BIOS?

Is the BIOS now set to defaults?

Do you have any type of RAID on this PC?

    ignatzatsonic Thanks for reply...

Sir, I only have a single hard drive on my pc and I didn't make any change to my bios and flashing a bios atleast is obvious to a novice like me that it can be pretty dangerous so not at all...
I just set my bios to its default values and boom i am able to boot the system successfully.... Can i ask that why did it happen in the first place?

Sir, Thanks a lot for your kind assistance....

I'm not sure why that happened in the first place, but I do know it's always a good idea to set the BIOS to defaults before giving up, so that's why I mentioned it. I'd definitely do it anytime I changed the battery.

I assume you did not lose any data and all is well?

Sir ignatzatsonic, I was lucky that i didn't lose any data but my hard drive is now producing strange sounds as if its rotation interrupts for a second so i am already transferring my data to my laptop but this hard drive issue is related to the alteration of cmos battery or is it just a random issue that's suddenly occurred?? Thank You.... :)

When you removed the old 3v battery it reset the BIOS to defaults.

The messages listed in your first post are the normal messages posted by the BIOS as it goes through it's startup procedure. Most likely this is because your BIOS has a setting like "Quiet Boot" that when enabled will bypass all these messages. You probably had that enabled before replacing the battery and the default setting is Disabled.

I suspect that the default setting for the SATA controller is IDE mode, but Windows was installed in AHCI Mode. Windows will often not start if you change modes after installation. So what you want to try first is to change the mode from whatever is default (I assume IDE) to the other (I assume AHCI). Do not choose RAID unless you are running a RAID Array.

Whenever you reset a BIOS to defaults you should note your current settings beforehand so you can set them back afterward. Since you were unaware you were resetting defaults you might now have to figure out if any settings need to be changed from default. But do not make any changes without knowing what you are doing. You can ask here if you need advice on any setting.
