That's been my weapon of choice for 10 years now, minus the extra buttons.

They're asking a LOT of money for it now! Maybe I'll sell my spare...... Maybe not.

I think $40 is a reasonable price. I like the extra buttons. It is a lot easier to go forward or backward. No need to go to the back arrow. One of mine (the wired one) does not have these buttons. When I use that, I always get discombobulated.
I have bought three Logitech M310s and they are fine. Good control for fine tasks like Photoshop editing. The only thing to check is the smoothness of the scroll wheel. On some the scroll wheel can have a rough feel. This is why it's best to buy from a shop even if it is a few dollars more expensive and check the smoothness of the scroll wheel before you part with your money. Also my experience is that Logitech have very good customer service.
For the best mouse reliability a wired mouse may be your best option. I use a wired Logi G500 on my mian box, also MS 5000 wireless and a Logi Marathon Mouse M705 on other boxes, both have been very good mice. You can get interference between the wireless mouse and wifi with some of the lower cost mice.
I have the Logitech wireless M505, and it has just developed a double-click problem after about a year of use. It is the second such mouse to do that on me. I tried things like replace battery to no avail. Have gone back to the DELL supplied USB mouse. It is ok, but I prefer wireless. I'll take a look at some of the others mentioned above.
I'd be looking into warranty replacement. I had Trackman Wireless replaced under warranty when one of the switches failed. It was over 4 years old, the warranty was 5 years. Check the warranty on your mouse here:

Thanks for the warranty suggestion. I just submitted a ticket. As I said, the current mouse is the second one I've had which developed a double click problem. It was a warranty replacement for the first one. No harm in trying again:-}}
EDIT: I got a feed back letter from HP, with several suggestions for clearing the "double-click" problem. The first one was to remove batteries, then click 10 times, replace batteries, and reconnect. Sounds a little like clicking the red shoes -- but it does seem to have helped. I'll run with it for a while and see how it goes.

Update: despite trying all of their suggestions, the mouse still produced double clicks. After several rounds of discussion they agreed to replace the mouse. Since they no longer make a 505, they sent me a 510. Got it earlier this week and it is working fine.
It is worth mentioning that my wife's 505 is still working fine after about 3 years. I just use my mouse a lot more.
