SSD to replace HD & I want to make sure I understand everything
I am planning to buy the, "Samsung 840 PRO Series MZ-7PD256 256GB,Internal,2.5" SSD" to replace my current SD where my OS sits. On the PCworld website it says, "If you're upgrading to an SSD on a desktop that has only a SATA 3-gbps interface, buy either a SATA 6-gbps controller card or ...." --elsewhere I read something similar. I think my MB doesn't need such a card The specs say,
"Intel® P55 chipset: 6 x SATA 3Gb/s port(s), blue Support Raid 0, 1, 5, 10
JMicron® JMB361 controller: 1 x eSATA 3Gb/s port(s), red
1 x UltraDMA 133/100/66 for up to 2 PATA devices , navy blue
Marvell® PCIe SATA 6Gb/s controller : *1
2 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s), gray
whereby the "*1" refers to, "These SATA ports are for data hard drives only. ATAPI devices are not supported."
Would I be correct in assuming therefore that I do not need a controller card? and all I have to do once purchased is connect the card (and figure out how to transfer my OS from my current HD to it)? Thank you
