Next, I don’t know if this approach will help until we try it. Let’s create a device install logfile.
I attached a .zip file. It contains two .reg files. The .reg files control the level of detail written to the log. Each .reg file applies a pretty simple registry change
SetVerboseLog.reg - sets verbose logging
ResetDefaultLog.reg - resets back to defaultCode:Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup] "LogLevel"=dword:08007070
So here’s the stepsCode:Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup] "LogLevel"=dword:00000000
- Run the disk cleanup tool again. USB drive or flash problems? How to cleanup and remove old USB storage drivers - TechSpot Forums
- Unpack the zip file to your Desktop. Double click to run SetVerboseLog.reg. When prompted, allow the registry change
- Delete C:\WINDOWS\inf\setupapi.dev.log
- Now insert your flash drive. Wait for the error message to occur
- There's now a new C:\WINDOWS\inf\setupapi.dev.log . Zip it and upload to next post
- Let’s leave Verbose logging set for now. You can reset it back to Default some time later when we're ready by simply running ResetDefaultLog.reg
