WD external hard drive suddenly not responding

hello, i have a 1tb western digital external hard drive less than a year old. I was watching some movie and my brother turned the laptop off for an hour then when i tried to get it back on my hard drive wasnt responding anymore, it lights up and blinks the first few seconds and has that start up sound and theres a sound when you plug it in but it still isnt recognized. i also tried changing the connector and changing laptops and desktops all with the same result, lights up sounds (the ones that tell you something was just plugged in ) and the slight wrrr sound from the hard drive. is there any way to get it fixed ?

    Hi ddvon,

    Welcome to Seven Forums.

Please post a screenshot of Windows Disk Management with only your WD 1TB external drive plugged in.

Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image

If its only a partition table corruption that has led to this situation you may be able to do a partition recovery with the Partition Wizard.

Help info on Partition Recovery Wizard of partition manager - Partition Wizard.

I don't see your external drive in the screenshot. Does it or does it not show in Windows Disk Management?

Please connect (plugin) your external drive, check whether it shows up in Windows Disk Management and post a fresh screenshot.

Please follow the instructions in the tutorial on screen capture and post a full screenshot of Windows Disk Management.

A full screenshot should appear like this ( Taken with Windows Snipping tool after hiding the Console Tree and Action Pane after clicking Show/hide Console Tree and Show/hide Action Pane icons in the tool bar.)

Download and install Minitools Partition Wizard Home Edition 8.1.1 Free download Magic Partition Manager Software, partition magic alternative, free partition magic, partition magic Windows 7 and server partition software - PartitionWizard Online and run Partition Recovery Wizard in it.

Help:Follow the recovery process under the heading "Recovery with Partition Wizard: SanDisk Cruzer Blade 16GB" in the thread Recover a flash drive turned RAW – Partition Wizard and TestDisk. ( In your case instead of the pendrive, it will be your external drive.)

    While you are at it

    1. Post the screenshot of how your external drive appears in Partition Wizard - the main screen

    2. Post a screenshot of partitions shown after you run the Quick Scan.

Note: I am taking a break from SevenForums for the next one or two months. I may only watch the forum but may not post anything.

But with the above screenshots many people here who are well-versed in using Partition Wizard can continue to help you if you have any problems.
