Graphics card burning (replaced) last night sub woofer done the same.

A few days ago I replaced my PC monitor as my old one was, well old and starting to go.

Plugged my new monitor in and everything seemed fine, I smelt burning and quickly pulled my desktop only to see a tiny flame on my graphics card. It was removed quickly , but it had blew (burning plastic smell).

Last night my sub woofer seems to have suffered the same fate, I smelt the same burning smell and quickly turned everything off and removed the sub.

I have no idea what is causing this the sub was working fine all day and nothing in my desktop was over heating or looks loose.

The sub was connected via main socket and was roughly 5-6 years old.

My graphics card was two years refurbished so god knows how old..

Could it be my PSU? It's 405w and never had a problem with it.

No idea how to check to see if its being pushed beyond its limits but I can't see how it has been of its been working great (it's my only thought to what's causing this)

The other being pure coincidence and it was just there time to go. Although I've never had anything burn like this before if it was starting to go.

I can take detailed pics of inside my desktop if needs be.

My other problem with my new graphics card is in the graphics card section

Monitor: Samsung 21.5" LED Monitor
OS: Windows 7 64x

well you can rule out your psu as that doesnt power your subwoofer. it should have its own power source. unless youve done a bit of a bodge to get it to run off its psu!

however a 400w psu for a 6670 isnt really man enough. im not 100% but I think the recommended psu is 500w

edit.. I stand corrected it is 400w, but you want to exceed the minimum by a fair margin as things such as dvd drive, additional hard drives, things plugged into usb ect all eat wattage, and you have 5w spare! also if its a cheap generic psu the chances are its not going to be a stable 400w

No PSU hasn't been tampered with, sub was connected via mains, the socket extension lead is a cheap 1 pound one could that be the problem? It had the monitor , desktop, speakers, 3ds charger, Ethernet box all plugged into it. It says maximum wattage is 3000 so I'm not sure, as far as upgrading PSU it's something I've never done and wouldn't know where to begin I've had it and the same peripherals for two years why would it only start surging now?

My PC at this point is and will be staying off, afraid of anything more going wrong and can't afford a new one.

If you can stretch to it I'd recommend getting a Corsair CS550M PSU and a Surge Protector.

Can get the surge protector locally, a friend has a 550w PSU that he's never used he's unsure of the make but going to look into it today. Thanks guys once I'm off my phone I will give rep.

Make sure any PSU you fit is a branded one, I always recommend Corsair. No matter the rating a cheap PSU can cause you problems. It's the engine of your machine and many people often overlook it or at least consider it unimportant. I'll take a look at your GPU thread, is it the same card that set on fire?

Same card but its a new one, software problems, installed fine and PC picked it up full list of my adventure with it on the thread, its some read.. Haha try I'll find out brand and let you know .

The PSU my friend has was a cheap EZCool.. Will this one you recommended work with my PC?
