Windows 7 will not list my head phone or mic in control panel

I have on board sound Realtak, I finall got them working by they are not listed on the control panel. What do I need to do to get Windows 7 to list them?

The recording device in Windows 7 does not work with my headphone/mic set.

Did you get software with the set and install it? Are you using the ports on the front of the case or on the back?

There was no soft wear, the Head set is from Creative, and I am using the ports at the back of the case.

The problems I've seen most with headphones and speakers have been plugging into the wrong port. Usually the light green port is for speakers and pink for a microphone. Some motherboards or sound cards may use the black port for the speakers but there's usually more ports while a 'standard' computer may have only 6 ports for the built-in adapter. It boils down to having the diagram/s for the computer and/or sound card to identify which to use. There's some different designations such as 2.1, 5.1, 7.1, etc. for the types of speaker setups.
