What PSU is needed to run my internals

So can I go eek then and say that 500watts will def not be big enough?

As a minimum supply, yes.
What I do is look at pricing at the moment. If I see that I can get a larger power supply for the same price or a bit more than the minimum required supply, that's what I do.

Well if 500 IS enough, then I can use my Vantec Ion2 500W (for now). I spent all my dosh ON the system, and fiddled around with the build to get (better) gfx card and a ssd drive. Going by the same price or a little bit more... means the new one gunna be free OR a little bit more for higher powered.

I went to local pc shop (pc australia) and got quoted $89 for a cooler power gx700 extreme power... which is apparently 80+ bronze and so on... NOT to be confused with cooler master.

Probably filled it out OK. I came up with 525/575.
Your idea to stick with the 500W you have is OK. Just keep in mind that if you experience any anomolies that could be power related it is time to start shopping for a 650W supply.

It appears that my ram (G.Skill F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM 8GB (2x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3) is NOT compatible with my mobo, ASRock Fatal1ty H87-PERFORMANCE MB and my NEXT choice... G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL 8GB (2x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3

Motherboards - B85M-E - ASUS was my second choice mobo... but I can't see anything bout memory compatibility tho.

Am I in trouble with my compatibilities.

What makes you think those RAM modules are not compatible?

You may be over thinking it a tad.
Those last few numbers/letters often just designated the color or the number of modules in a package.
What you look at is the first group of characters.
G.Skill F3-12800 is the product group. Notice how all the modules tested from G.Skill have that designation.
12800 is the RAM speed (PC12800) and it corresponds to 1600MHz. Another F3 package may be higher speed (1866MHz-PC14900) but it is still the same group.

CL indicates the latency of the RAM. CL7 is better than CL9, but it all works.

8GB is the amount of RAM in the package (2x4GB) - that number will change but it is still the same stuff.

And then there is ECO, BDX, XYZ, etc.. And that may mean a blue heatsheild, or a tall heatshield, etc.

Just match the specs, not the model numbers.
The most important spec is the RAM voltage. To be compatible the RAM must fall in the voltage range acceptable by the motherboard. That board looks like it will do anything from 1.35v to 1.65v with most of the compatible RAM at 1.5v.

Back about the PSU.

I took my vantec ion2 500w OUT of this machine, and put in a 320w Aywun PSU from an old case (had 2 sata cables, the others I had, only had 1 sata cable)... and the internals of this are
OS: Win 7 ult 64 bit sp1 on a small (not II or III, just sata) hdd
RAM: 6.00GB Single-Channel DDR2 @ 334MHz (5-5-5-15) (kingston hyperX blue)
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
MOBO: Asus MXN-MX
GFX: gigabyte hd 5450 1gb ddr3 connected through hdmi on 1920X1200
Storage: internal sata III 1gb hdd

These are on this machine and will also be getting transferred to other machine.

4port usb3 pci/e card (connected with molex)
PCI SB 5.1 VX soundblaster
and connected is 3 external drives (2TB) one is usb3, the others are usb2 all dc powered (not usb powered)

All seemingly running smooth on that 320watt psu.
BUT, I know that I am probably well under powered LOL...
I understand gold is sweet as, silver, bronze, 80+ etc... and stuff without them, are good aswell, but not as good... anyways... am after GOOD, but not not crazy expensive either (and apparently aus has "insane prices" LOL)

Most of the supplies you list are consumer grade supplies. You have chosen PRICE as your primary criteria.

You have already experienced what can result from spending good money on an inferior power supply (the 320W is outperforming the 500W). So you might want to consider using QUALITY as your primary criteria.

Most of the builders here use supplies from Seasonic, Corsair, PC Power & Cooling. These are pretty much $20-$30 more than consumer grade supplies of the same size, but the quality of the internal components is much better. Please consider.

The summary is that the vast majority of power supply labels are just resellers. They do not build power supplies (like OEMs) and they do not even design power supplies (like Corsair or Antec). Note that if you go to the Corsair page you will see that some of their supplies are made by Seasonic (an OEM).

When I replaced a crappy 500W power supply bought online from Fry's with a Corsair 520W supply built by Seasonic (from the egg), a few years ago the system almost miraculously became 100% more stable. I will never skimp on a power supply again. EVER.

So name is better than no brand (except food stuffs)

I never experienced that... cos the 320 is running the same as the 500watt... and all ways going well

Anyways, I came back to edit that post with an update, but post wasn't there too update...
The update is... the 320 just crapped itself... was typing on skype and then screen went black LOL

So changed to 550watt, BUT this one just has one sata... and the fcker is noisy as LOL
The psu is a 'power case', model: ez-pph524x.
+3.3v = 30a
+5v = 28a
+12v1 = 18a
+12v2 =18a
-12v = 0.8a
+5vsb = 3.0a
Total output 550w

Hopefully this one lasts the distance until new machine is ready LOL...

The system build will test about 5 working days after all parts are available <=-- shouldn't take THAT long to build and test surely LOL

One thing I do to ease the power requirements of my computers is to use Self-Powered USB devices whenever possible. Another choice is a Self-Powered USB 2 [or 3] Hub. Both of these lessen the amount of power needed from the USB ports for devices. Thumb/Flash drives don't need much power.
