    Brother HL-2040 Printer Driver Issue...

OK, so I grew a big pair of cajones and decided to just "go for it" on my main machine and try the inplace upgrade. I crossed my fingers and started setup off the DVD then downloaded the updated setup files...
       Information
BTW - I have previously run the Win7 upgrade advisor and found a few mobo drivers I knew I'd need to update afterwards like SATA RAID. No other issues were reported.
When I crossed my fingers and clicked upgrade, I waited anxiously... then a dialog box popped up informing me that I had issues that needed to be resolved before setup could continue:
    1. I need to update my laser printer driver <---???
    2. I need to possibly remove iTunes <-- that's no big deal!
So, I closed setup and went to brothers support site looking for drivers... None were listed but I found a link to the Win7 driver update release schedule. Guess what these ID10Ts are doing with my driver??? Not gonna be released until December 2009!!! WTH??? Here is their release schedule: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com...r_schedule.pdf

As a teacher one peripheral I rely on heavily is my printer...
MY QUESTION IS: IS ANYONE HERE USING THIS PRINTER WITH WIN7 AND ARE YOU HAVING ANY ISUES USING THE LAST VISTA DRIVER?

    More info on the issue:

According to Microsoft my printer is compatible...
    https://www.microsoft.com/windows/co...ters&os=32-bit

However, a support call to Brother confirmed that they will not have Win7 drivers until early December as shown in the release schedule above!

SO BACK TO THE QUESTION... IS ANYONE RUNNING THIS PRINTER WITH WIN7???

    Fwiw hp

It's a wait until January for the full set of drivers for my HP multifunction. But to give them their ( slight) due. There is a basic printer driver.

(It's not as if Win 7 was unexpcted. it's hardly been kept under wraps, has it.)

    "Win7 Leap of Faith"

Not that I dont believe foreign "tech support" people... LMAO... I took the "Win7 Leap of Faith" (AKA:An In Place Upgrade with little to no backup) on my everyday-mainstream-"cant live without it"-workhorse earlier today...
       Warning
KIDS, DO NTO TRY THIS AT HOME!!!
    And all is good! Whew!
I had a support person at Brother confirm to me that they will not have Win7 drivers until early December as shown in the release schedule above!

But according to Microsoft my printer is compatible...???https://www.microsoft.com/windows/co...ters&os=32-bit

    Now ask yourself...
Who would you believe?... Some 3rd world, dime-an-hour "tech" or the MS Win7 Compatibility page?

Now I have played with Win7 in various beta formats for over a year, and I have always found things to work with very little to NO tweaking!!! I have also installed Windows 7 on every PC I own! Thats 3 desktops and a laptop... and ZERO PROBLEMS! I must note that all the other machines were clean installs also... but this was my everyday baby... she's different!

When that 1st attempt at upgrade hit that Brother printer/iTunes snag, I downloaded and installed the very latest Vista driver for the Brother and rebooted! Oh yes I had "deactivated" iTunes (not sure how that mattered) also! Then I immediately launched the upgrade install again...

The 2nd attempt at the upgrade install went flawlessly... I did cringe at 62 minutes when the install went to a crawl, but it picked back up and finished in just under 2 hours. (1:57 to be exact!)

But, my jaw hit the floor when the machine finally came to life under Win7... and the printer hit an error!

I calmly hit the button to let Win7 try to solve the issue... and WALA it was fixed!

I AM A PC, AND WINDOWS 7 IS SO DAMN COOL!!!

I did a clean install of Win 7 a week ago. My Brother 2040 printer was off at the time and had been turned off since.

I didn't start it until 5 minutes ago when I read this post.

Started it up and it was immediately recognized. The installed driver is version 3.25, dated 7/30/09.

    It prints well, no issues.

This is why I love Win7... even if upgrade advisor tells you something may not work... WALA! It does once you finish install, reboot, and or update!

    Windows 7 is da shiyat!
