Kingston does not list the GA-P55A-UD3 in the supported systems list on this page:
Memory Search | Kingston

Here are all of the Gigabyte system listed with UD3 in the name. A Search for P55 in the list returned nothing.

It will be interesting to see if the other stick lists the GA-P55A-UD3.

I'll leave the debate of what this means up to others.

Thanks. As to the other question...

1 - did you get all four modules at the same time or at different times?

2 - Are all 4 modules the same?

Salrtybart I'm not a fan of those compatibility listings as they don't always get updated, nor do they take in account that BIOS updates may have increased compatibility. Couple that with the fact that at least two of those modules does appear to work, despite not being listed.

I'm thinking there's only a few possibilities...

1 - Bad modules
2 - A setting in the BIOS is off or misconfigured
3 - A needed BIOS update

That said, I think this thread is getting all over the place so I think we need to organize it by starting with the basics and moving from there. It would also help tremendously if the OP answered the questions/suggestions so that we know we can move on to the next.

With that, it was suggested to...

1- Enable XMP mode. The OP said he didn't know how, and we provided a place to look. yet again... no word if this was done???

2 - We then talked about updating the BIOS, the OP said he tried but ran into problems. We are we on that??? - OP stated he went back to old BIOS

3 - there's still the question of the RAM info... are all 4 sticks the same as what the OP posted??? - Answered

If we can try and stick to and get these questions answered it would probably go a long way into solving the issue.

Thanks.

I got them all at the same time, my brother and I actually got the exact same PC's built.. with same everything. His works fine, mine doesn't - and I can't confirm that it ever has or not as I just realised recently it was only using 4gb. Anyways, I managed to reinstall the BIOS that I backed up so my PC is at least working the way it was before the BIOS issue. I think I'm going to leave it at that, unless someone can convince me otherwise. I run some pretty memory intensive software so I'm going to look at upgrading my mobo/chip/ram in the near future and will likely have 16gb to play with then.

Thanks to you all for so much help.

Once more to try for a definitive answer. Do all the RAM stick have the same part number? This may be your problem. This has been brought up, asked 7-8 times.

You're welcome.

Glad you got the BIOS update straightened out. It's your call on whether to pursue the issue further.

I was thinking about this issue.

You and you brother have "identical" machines built at the same time by the same person/shop.

It would be interesting to compare the memory sticks in your machine with those in your brother's.

Some smaller shops only carry so much inventory. If the shop only had 5 compatible sticks (4 went into your brother's machine and one went into your machine) but had some of the not compatible sticks (numbers are close enough) and stuck 3 of those in your machine to bring it to 8 GB, then Kingston was right.

If your brother's machine has four of the modules highlighted in Britton30's post# 10 (image copied here)
Then I'd take the issue up with the shop.

Yeah, pretty sure that shop went down the tube so wouldn't surprise me. Also though, I have tried my housemates RAM (4 x 4gb) and only 8gb came up as usable which makes me think it's the BIOS or mobo. I think I'm going to upgrade my PC in a months time or so anyways, so will make do with it until then.

I looked (post 32). Kingston and GSkill don't list the motherboard but Corsair does. I know that doesn't mean that other Ram wouldn't work but if nolube is planning to build a new system I think it is safer to go for Ram tested with the chosen motherboard.
