Windows want to format my hard drive

Hi all,

New here, just upgraded from Vista Home Premium 32bit to Win 7 Home premium 32 bit. I went the upgrade option, not a clean install.

All went really well, cudos to MS. After the upgrade everything worked and all was good for a couple days. However this am I started the PC (desktop, home built) and when I clicked the icon for my D: (fixed hard drive) I got the message that if I wanted to use this drive Windows would need to format it first. All my data and images etc are on this drive, so was rather concerned. Anyway, I rebooted and the problem was gone and I had access to the D: again. I ran a chkdsk in this drive an no probelms were reported. Just concerned that it might happen again. Any ideas?

No. He will most likely lose data if he formats it. If you're going to format the hard disk ALWAYS backup important data first.
