Mouse Not Responding As It Should - Windows 7

Hi,

I've only recently come across an issue when trying to use my mouse (I've been using this computer and keyboard/mouse for years with no problem).

I have a wireless keyboard/mouse (keyboard works fine) I can move the mouse, right click, left click (only works to highlight folders, everything else is non responsive).

If i try click windows icon, nothing happens, if i try opening/closing something nothing happens, right click if a window or program was open, would close it.

I thought the batteries might need changing so i replaced them and still the same, i thought maybe the drivers had corrupted, so i removed them, restarted and connected the usb receiver to install fresh and still the same issue.

This is a very random issue tho, i can turn the machine on and it will work fine, then at any time it would start spazing out.

I removed the wireless driver and installed a wired keyboard/mouse which worked fine, then today started spazing out like the wireless one did.

Ive removed the wired one, installed the wireless one again and it works, but did notice web pages would automatically scroll down.

Ive turned the machine off for a while, turned back on and the wireless keyboard/mouse seems to be working fine for now, like the wired one, but im pretty sure the problem will happen again.

i wondered if anyone had any ideas why perfectly working mouses would all of a sudden start spazzing out for no reason?

Its a Desktop PC.

Last friday i first noticed the problem, then replaced the mouse/keyboard (with usb wired ones) and it worked fine.

Today i noticed it was working fine then it started spazzing out, then put the wireless ones in... so far working ok.

But im guessing tomorrow it may repeat like it did after friday.

Have you tried replacing your mouse pad with a piece of paper for the time being to see if it improves? Maybe it's just an old mouse pad and it's having a hard time with the mouse

A few things to try with the wired mouse first:

Go into Control Panel> Hardware and Sound> Power Options> Whatever is recommended for you currently> "Change plan settings"> Change advanced power settings> USB settings> USB selective suspend settings> Setting: set to disabled if enabled> Apply.

Go into Control Panel> Hardware and Sound> Under "Device and Printers" choose "Mouse." > Pointer Options tab> If "Enhanced Pointer Precision" is ticked then un-tick it and apply the changes.

If that doesn't work then maybe use Control Panel to un-install the drivers then re-install them if you haven't already done so which I believe you have.

Have you tried the mouse on a different computer?

i think its something within the machine, after swapping the wireless mouse/keyboard to a wired one (which worked) a few days later, the wired one had the same issue.

Took that off, put the wireless one back and its been working fine since then.
