Hooking up an android phone

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace and have installed it's software and Kies but it is not being recognised in Computer. When I run Kies it shows up my computers pics but off the phone nothing.

Any ideas please as I am not real good with these new phones.

John, when you plug it in Windows Explorer should see it as just another drive. You can then browse to your photo's using Explorer. No need for KIES. Does that work for you?

If you turn the phone on - or activate it - after its plugged in, does it show then?

Mmmm.....Windows is seeing it, just not displaying it as a drive. Does it show up in Disk Management as a drive/partition?

I realize that our phones are different, but perhaps this will help...

On my phone (HTC Thunderbolt) I can go to Settings>Personal>Connect to PC where I can set the default action (Charge Only, Disk Drive, Internet Sharing and so forth) when connected to a PC.

In that same category there is a setting for "Ask every time the phone is connected."

Mine is set to a default of Charge Only and Ask at every connection. Most of the time when I connect the phone I only want to charge, but sometimes I want to transfer pictures or whatever so I select Disk Drive when asked.

Oh yeah, the phone must be unlocked when connecting or it won't ask which action you want to perform.

Now that I've thought about it a little bit, I think that this applies only to mounting the SD Card as a removable drive, but since I have my phone set to save the pictures to the SD Card it works out for me.

Just get a micro sd card out of your phone, and plug it into your pc with a sd card reader. Works every time.

Windows Phone 7 or Android
I am looking at getting a smartphone and am considering either Windows Phone 7 because of Xbox Live integration. Or Android because of customizability. iOS is not an option.
