No mate if anything the thing looks more jaundiced nothing like that small pic shows up as. When on it seems to take away the "blueness" of the screen.

It would be good to hear from one of the folks that owns a PLS monitor. Sometimes it is hard to tell what normal is. Maybe that's how they produce 'better colors'.

There is always the possibility that some of the LEDs are not lit (defective). But we can't tell from Samsung's specs what kind of LED back light it has (Samsung doesn't even mention LED in it's description!). Some monitors use a string of small LEDs wrapped around the border of the monitor, others use a strip on the top or the bottom or both. But if the light is evenly dispersed throughout the display it is unlikely that this is the cause.

What do you mean by "jaundiced"? Is it a yellow light?

Also: is the display a matte or glossy?

John, here is a site with test images for monitors:
LCD monitor test images

Now, since everything is relative, I suggest going through the test images on your new monitor and then switching to the old TN monitor and run through them again to compare.
These tests will normally point out any errors or anomalies.

The display is watchable but and does look evenly lit and maybe it is because the screen is thatmuch larger I am not getting the full picture (no pun). The thing that is somehow not right is that what I mean by jaundiced the whites in the largest parts like these post windows looks greeny / yellowy see a snip of this window and look at the type page and the logo and SevenForum at top thatis real white and maybe just down to me fine tuning it. Essenbe said to me once he spent a lot of time fine tuning the sceen before he got it right.
If I could find my camera I would take pics of the BenQ and this one and you could see what I mean. But maybe it is just me??

John, try going to tft central TFT Central - LCD Monitor Information, Reviews, Guides and News and see if they have a color profile for your monitor. They have all the fancy equipment and test monitors and find the best profile of contrast, brightness and all the stuff and have downloadable profiles that you can put into Windows then select it to get the best picture. I did that with mine and am pretty happy with the results. Out of the box, mine was really bad. But it is the combination of all the settings you have to play with to get the best picture.

Interesting. In the image you attached there is no difference in whites on my monitor.

This would indicate that the ones and zeros are correct - otherwise the screen grab would have picked it up - but the monitor is not reproducing it correctly.

Ok Steve I will try that in the meantime I tried the Lacom test (thanks for the link TV) and got the screens right exept for sharpness which was greyed out for some reason and already the screen is much brighter and colours more for want of a better term "even".

Yep steve I remeber you saying that once and the Samsung is not listed there but at least the picture is now better than it was in fact way better
That colour difference I mentioned to TV is virtually non existent now.

External hard drive- how to pick one and install it.
I have a Dell Inspiron 530 which I just upgraded the OS to Windows 7. Seems that the internal hard drive is almost full (I plan on doing some deleting of photos once I have copied them safely elsewhere) and a friend has suggested adding an external HD. I will probably use it primarily for...

Help me pick an External Hard Drive please!
