Yes thanks to everyone for the help!
Picture is ok this morning although a little too bright I now have no sound and cannot get back into the picture adjustments such as brightness colours gamma etc etc Tha site that YV sent me last night worked a treat but today I am just starting to get a rtad frustrated with the darn thing.
I am wondering if hooking up via HDMI is having any effect on the sound from my Xonar DG sound card - if it is then I am sunk.
Any ideas please
PS Solved installing the monitor had stopped the Xonar set up in Sound in Control Panel reset it ands sound is back
Is the sound coming from a sound bar on the monitor? Glad you figured it out. How is the audio quality through the sound bar?
I have a 5 speaker system so I did not want a secondary device to deal with.
Isn't this why we buy new tech? To struggle to set them up and fix things?
No mate I have a Logitec Z506 system driven by an Asus Xonar DG and it is just brilliant and once in Sound all was greyed out clicked the Xonar it blacked in and away it went.
If you like sound as much as I do you would like the GUI of the Xonar it is fabulous for "working" the effects and mixing to custom taste, and the Logitec compliments it beautifully. Better still the two are very cheap:)
The monitor on the other hand is still very difficult to get right. For example if I get the screen just as I like it have to restart for any reason the screen comes back as before I did the adjustments yet again. The controls on the monitor are also not that easy to use the colour for example is greyed out as is the sharpness and gamma. I have to go through the Windows system to set them and as before a restart sets the default
I am going to do a complete reinstall next time I am at my place as the machine has been sluggish, temperamental and spits the dummy like a two year old every now and then so it might have something to do with the monitor problem.
I don't like the sound of the monitor not saving the settings.
Do you need to confirm or save somewhere? Sometimes they let you play with the settings but not commit. And monitor menus are notoriously convoluted.
Hey John mate I thought I would look into this for you while having a minor angina attack. OK you have said you are adjusting the monitor with N Vidia control panel. The controls on the monitor are greyed out?
OK here is what I think it is. The monitor is set to stupid auto everything mode. I read the PDF on controls and every dam twiddler (for wnat of a better word) does not work if this is turned on or that is turned on or in GAME mode. So restart your PC and set the controls on the monitor.
Set MAGIC BRIGHT to Custom to allow you to set the controls
Turn OFF ECO SAVING
Turn OFF GAME MODE
See page 34 on the manual, then you will be able to set the monitor brightness sharpness contrast as you like. The use the calibration in Windows 7 Display box to tweak any slight colour cast out of the image.
Their TV's have some of these energy saving modes and can drive people mad as the picture goes light and dark as the sun goes in ot out and dim at night with no lights on.
Try that and let us know.
IF it doesnt have HDMI? instant no go in my opinion but i hope your happy with whatever you choose! sure they will both be outstanding
Yes mate I think you might have something there because I did notice it was diving into GAME mode all the time.
Surely the thing should not be so convoluted as that. I reckon you should be bale to set and forget. Having said that I am going to do a reinstall next time I am at my place for any length of time as the machine itself is been playing up a fair bit. I have noticed a few sfc's and chkdsk's that say it cannot repair stuff but not exactly what is wrong
John those settings are on the monitor, so long as it is set in those modes you cannot adjust the controls on the monitor. You should not be setting things in the computer control panel no matter what except for maybe things like DVD or Blu ray playback.
