Formating External drive/ sd card issues

Hi. I've been using windows 7 ultimate for more than a year and i never had to format anything with this computer yet and now it seems that I cannot.
I tried to find other threads but I couldn't find an answer to my problem.

FIrst of all, I tried to use an old 8gb Usb flash drive that I didn't use for maybe 6 month. When trying to open the drive from '' my computer'' it told me that I needed to format it. So I tried any possibles ways. ( In disk management, it tells me it's Raw, Healhy, primary partition. I Tried in every type ( fat32, exfat, Ntfs, Normal/quick format) It's always UNABLE to complete formating.

I tried with another type to see if my flash drive was simply Defect by using an old HDD iOmega 320 gb. Same thing happened.

Now, I just bought a brand new 8gb Micro Sd card and I still get the same thing.

I Tried formating with COmmand Prompt and It's still unable to farmat anything.

I decided to try them on my old Laptop working on Vista 32 bit and I only got my Hdd iOmega formated, but still got the same problem with the other 2 flash drive.

If any one could give me a hint of what else I could do, I would be eternaly gratefull T_T'

    Welcome Semi :)

Yuo may try this FREE program called Rufus. You can format USB flash drives & even make then bootable if you want.

    Hi Semi,

    Try the following.

    1. Do a drive cleanup as detailed here USB disks not recognized although USB mouse & keyboard are . After that connect your USB drives and try to format.

    2. Open Windows Disk Management and view your flash drives/other USB drives. Delete all existing partitions in them. When it shows just one volume, right click on it and format. Do a full format and not the quick format.

    3. Download and run HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool as administrator to format your USB drives.
HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool Free Download Full Format again.

First of all, a Huge thanks to both of you for the incredibly fast reply to my post.

I tried first with the brand new sd card..

I first did both of the SeaTools test ( SHort and long), Passed.

    Rufus didn't work.

Then, I did step by step the guide for the disk cleaner and it end up Positivly without any ''error'' or so.

First format ended as usual ( Failed ). I still tried then with your step 3 hoping that it would maybe work!? Didn't.

I'll try later with any other storage device I have. Thanks again, if you have any other idea, I'd be glad to try them
