Why do files open immediately when I click to drag and drop?

I am having an issue with my mouse settings - whenever I try to drag and drop a file, it opens before I have the chance to drag it. How do I change this in my settings?

You could check the double-click speed setting for the mouse.

Do the file names get underlined when you put the mouse cursor over them? Then the explorer's Folder options may be set to one click instead of double click.

Thanks, I adjusted the speed of the mouse and it didn't change anything. The files don't get underlined when you put the cursor over them. Any other possibilities?

Try setting the double-click speed to maximum. That means you have to be very fast to do a double-click, but drag and drop should therefor work better.

Maybe the mouse is broken. If you could try it on another computer it's easier to tell.
