HDD works only in a certain enclosure?

So my 2TB seagate drive decided to pack up, i had a lot of data on it i needed to recovery. After trying many recovery tools for the best part of a week i finally found a recovery tool that did a great job.

So i bought a 3TB WD 3.5" drive and stuck it in a clone caddy i use for cloning (but also can be used as a enclosure via usb). Transferred all my data across to the new 3TB WD drive.

Now here is the odd part i have never see before, if i stick this 3TB drive in a different caddy windows will not pick up the data. If i go to computer management it asks to initialize the disk, or something along those lines. Doing so erases the data (which i found out the hard way hence a week of recovery/backing up).

Why on earth would a hard drive ONLY work in a certain caddy? The hard drive just had pictures and software programs on in folders. I really need to stick this WD HDD in its own enclosure...

    Help?

Some caddies specify the maximum hard drive size it supports. Does yours indicate that it supports a 3GB drive?

Well the caddy it doesnt show up in is a seagate original 2TB drive, and im using a 3TB WD hdd. But like i say, when you go to computer management it picks it up and asks you to initialize the disk?

Im waiting for a new Icybox enclosure to come next week, so i will test the 3TB in that. Heres hoping...
