HDD names changing without my authorization!

hello, .. Yeah, that how it is...

My hdd are changing their name to Local Disk.

I mean, .. the name I give them is erased...

Anyone know why is this happenind?

As far as I have known, things like this do not happen all of a sudden on their own. There must be some precipitating factor.

Did you install Panda Antivirus? This writes something in the MFT, a concealed autorun.inf as I have half understood, which though not impossible to undo, is so much complicated that I had given up understanding it.:)

The easiest solution is to backup all data in those drives and reformat them.( as I have understood)

The next thing you can try is to add System in the security settings and give it full permissions.

It is all discussed here and I think that it is relevant in your case.

Have a look at it and see whether it helps.

I just realized the HDD names are correct in Disk Management, .. but I cannot see them in "My Computer"..
In "My Computer" they are named: Local Disk.

Looks like you didn't bother to read my post - post #3 or the referenced discussion.

It is very clearly stated in the discussions that Windows Disk Management as well as diskpart Label command will show you the correct drive label and this peculiar problem arises because Panda USB vaccine or someother program has written a hidden autorun.inf/ini into the MFT. The easy solutions are:

1. Backup all data in the HDD and then reformat it. ( A new MFT will be written and thereafter you can copy the data back.)

OR

2. In the Security settings of the HDD add "System" and give all and full permissions to it.

The complicated solution is to read the MFT with a sector editor, locate and delete the hidden autorun file. If you make mistakes your HDD will become inaccessible.

Yes I read your suggestion, .. thanks a lot, .. I think that USB fix Vaccination did that, it all coincide. I will try the system stuff later, ..

If it existed , yes:) . And of course there is no bar on the OP running any of those system cleansers.

I have only attacked the root cause. ( after some learning and I am still learning to shoot my arrows)
