operating system not found, no access to bios.

    Hi guys,

I was using my laptop and all of a sudden it went off. When I turned it back on I was greeted with a black and white writing "operating system not found".
I've tried connecting a different hdd.
I've tried reinstalling using cd that came with laptop but as the hdd can't be found I have nowhere to install OS.

Also my esc, F2, F4 buttons do not work. When booting up and pressing F8 to go to boot menu I just get the same "operating system not found"

I have samsung np-rv511 500gb hitachi sata hdd

If the HDD is "broke" F8 will be of no use as it relies upon parts of the Operating System such as Safe Mode for a diagnostic. Entering the BIOS Setup using the displayed key should get into the setup but if that isn't working good chance the keyboard or motherboard has a problem. Since it does display an error message it is getting some power.

The keyboard definately has a problem as I spilled liquid on it about 12 months ago. But I was told there is another way to acces bios? I'm not convinced it's the hdd as I've connected a different hdd with the same results

The downside of Notebooks/Laptops is that when something is spilled on the keyboard it can migrate to parts under the keyboard which is the motherboard and possibly the HDD. The only part that takes up its own space is the battery.

As for an alternate way to get to the BIOS you might try a USB wired keyboard, older Notebooks may have also had a PS/2 socket but haven't dealt with one in quite awhile.

Yes I understand that but surely if that were to happen it would of happened months ago. As I said the spillage was around 12 months ago and I use it pretty much every day.
I have been able to acces windows memory diagnostics tool by pressing F8 and it did also allow me to boot in safe mode about 5 mins ago but only to run setup cdrom
