Dell Insprion 530

I know I might have posted in the past about this but wanted to ask again. I have a Dell Inspiron 530....The machine itself okay for what I use it for, I know its getting a little old in the tooth and I don't have the cash to spend on a new powerhouse PC, so I was just curious as I do want to upgrade it a little...maybe the CPU? i know people have said in the past that it's not worth upgrading but figured if I could eek a little more out of this machine til I can afford a new one it'd be helpful

Thanks

Hi

Whilst I like your idea of upgrading the issue you may have would be only upgrading the CPU may be bottlenecking your system. This means the other hardware isn't quick/powerful enough to be able to make full use of the CPU. The CPU may not be compatible with your motherboard, this could be more expensive than simply buying a new PC. The price of PC's is pretty good and you can get a good deal on a new one. You can get a good PC for general tasks for pretty cheap!
If you let us know your budget we can find a suitable PC.

Hope this helps!

The Dell Desktop Hardware forum may be the best place to ask about upgrading a Dell. People there with more knowledge of specific Dell hardware.

Also, do you have a 530 or 530S model (it does make a difference).

I tried to look at the Dell specs on this model but the on-line documentation has been removed. This is a mid 2007 machine.

EDIT/Added. While you say you can't afford a new PC, I agree with callumm that it really is not worth it. Even if you just add a new CPU, knowing Dell's you may have to upgrade other hardware too (e.g. power supply). Whatever you do, you will still have an "old technology" PC.
