Casper 8 makes a complete and instantly bootable backup for your system. You can boot and run your computer directly from your backup drive.

So more like a clone (instead of backup) and afterwards some hacks to make it bootable. Correct?

Kind of. I do the first copy, backup or whatever and it takes about 2 hours. All subsequent backups will take 3 to 6 minutes creating an immediate up to date copy of my hard drive. My understanding of cloning is that an exact copy is made but any subsequent cloning wipes out the initial therefore if the first clone takes 2 hours, every clone will take about 2 hours.

No, there are no hacks required to make it bootable. Casper 8 creates a bootable usb drive, internal hard drive or whatever. Simply set your bios to boot to usb first and that is it.

Win7 cannot boot from usb! The usb drivers are normally loaded to late in the boot process. It seems Casper8 hacks the sequence of driver loading.
Why your usb drive doesn't boot correctly... I can't help you with that

Kaktussoft, sorry about the delay in responding. Windows 7 CAN boot from usb! I currently have all internal harddrives disconnected, booted to usb Lacie drive and am posting this message. Casper backups create a bootable usb drive. You do not have to do any hacks of any kind. Just set the bios to boot to usb. Have been using it for years and absolutely love it.
