Bootable usb hd not booting

Hp Touchsmart 320 pc and a Toshiba v73600- a 500gb usb harddrive
Using Casper 8, the Hp is cloned to the Toshiba supposedly to create a bootable backup.

Having a problem booting to the usb hd. It attempts to boot then reverts to primary hd. I disabled "auto restart on system failure" and got the error message 0x0000007b (0xfffff880009a9928, 0xffffffffc0000034, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000 which indicates an inaccessible boot device. What I do not know is why the usb drive is inaccessible. Any suggestions?

Ron

UPDATE: Switched to my Lacie usb drive and it has the same issue which leads me to think that the problem must be with the HP Touchsmart 320.

Hey Anaron, I've had the same issues with USB booting from different machines as well. To me it seems that the BIOS are not fully compatible to boot them even tho they give you the option too. I'd recommend making sure your HP Touchsmart 320 is upgraded to the newest BIOS just in case. The other option is to create a bootable linux drive just to test maybe theres a issue with how Casper 8 is creating the image.

I think you are right. Both of these usb drives will work on my personal system with no issues but not on the HP. The same Casper 8 program with the exact same settings are used on both machines. Got to be something with the HP> Will look into an update for bios and see if it helps.

Back to the drawing board. Bois update was of no help. Got the Casper crew working on this but they have not been able to find anything as of yet.

Did not think about drivers for the usb hard drives. Have never had that problem before. How do I remedy this?

Ok, now I am freaking out! Backed up my personal computer to the Toshiba usb drive and booted my computer to it to make sure there were no issues with the usb drive. Worked perfectly. Plugged it back in to the HP so that I could get the hp backup back on the Toshiba. Booted the computer and it booted to the Toshiba drive and the operating system for my computer! Screen is 800x600 but my win 7 pro custom machine is functional on a win 7 home HP machine! Never had that happen before!
